Charles "Chuck" Piazza: Artfully Working with Colorful Dust, Heat & Light
In my studio I playfully work with colorful dust to allow light and glass to collide…to become one. Glass fusing artfully uses heat to transform colorful dust. In an alchemistic process, extreme temperatures cause colorful dust to become honey-like, moving and mixing so light and glass can dynamically engage with each other.
By delicately working with glass in layers and fusing it multiple times, soft colorful impressionistic and abstract pastel paintings are created. These (framed) miniature works of art seek to capture the vibrancy of life that is found in the subtle and often overlooked experiences of nature that give human experience color—meaning and vitality-- in the midst of darkness.
When I am not in my Washington studio making glass, I am in Sicily living and drawing the rich historic sites, dazzling scenic landscapes, and amazing people using brilliant colorful inks, pastels and pencils.
